About: In this story of confused identities and unexpected revelations, the older man at left is shopkeeper Mr. Deems. The younger man is helping to pick up onions dropped by the woman at right. Eventually the latter two are introduced and, by the story's end, they are engaged. After Benjamin West Clinedinst studied for a year in Baltimore and for five years in Paris, he began his career as illustrator for Leslie's Weekly. He illustrated books by many American authors, including Robert Louis Stevenson and Mark Twain.
