About: In this bookplate for writer Harry Thomas Clinton, Charles Allan Winter depicts voulmes of Shakespeare and Dante and the Bible within a frame reminiscent of antique sculpture. A mediaeval castle stands in the distance. An elaborate escutcheon features Clinton's initials. Both his name and the artist's appear to be carved into stone. Taken together, the book plate's design and details announce that Clinton valued history and favored literary classics.
