About: Gene Ahern's daily comic strip Our Boarding House featured down-to-earth landlady Mrs. Hoople and her self-important husband, who claimed the title "Major" Hoople and was compared by some to the once-screen character of W. C. Fields. The strip was carried on until 1984 by other artists after Ahern left the Newspaper Enterprise Association in 1936.
