About: A noted modern artist, as well as a commercial photographer, Steichen often incorporated bold, geometric elements into his fashion photographs, giving them a modern flair. Here, he contrasts a stark, black-and-white striped background, with a flowing silk gown with fur cuffs. Edward Hopper created a similar contrast in his painting Summertime, on view in the neighboring gallery.
