About: Founded in 1936 and still active today, the American Abstract Artists group promotes abstract painting in the United States. In the 1930s, Cavallon, like other members of the group, derived his style from Mondrian and the European art movements Purism and Neo-Plasticism. Cavallon's canvasses from the thirties, like this one, feature large areas of flat color and do not contain recognizable forms.
