About: This painting depicts the arrival at Fort Christina of Johan Printz, the governor of New Sweden from 1643 to 1653. Wyeth shows Printz reading out his credentials, standing with his staff of office and the royal crest of Sweden as if on a stage set, with the sea and ship painted as a backdrop.
