About: The Pre Raphaelites’ reverence for literature included the Bible. Siddal was primarily a watercolorist. Her naive but compelling, almost wistful, style is unique among the painters of this period. Sadly, her artistic career was curtailed by an early death from an overdose of laudanum, an opium derivative widely used for medicinal purposes.
